Five Reasons to Start an Online School

During the COVID pandemic, many people suddenly found themselves out of jobs, forced to stay at home, or working from home.

The pandemic forced many people to reconsider their working lives. We saw the Great Resignation and the growth of Digital Nomadism.

Some people chose to become self-employed or set up their own businesses.  There are no definite figures, but it is estimated that over four million new businesses were set up in America alone.

The pandemic therefore resulted in –

  • An increase in the number of people leaving jobs
  • An increase in the number of people changing their jobs
  • More people working from home or in an environment outside of the traditional office.
  • More people setting up their own businesses or working for themselves.

The pandemic was a new and unexpected situation that forced many people to re-evaluate their whole lives. Not just their working life, but what they wanted from their life overall.

The pandemic does now seem to be easing, but many of these feelings that arose as a result of the pandemic still exist. People are questioning what they want out of their life and their working life particularly.

Starting Your Own Business

Many people have decided to set up their own business!

Some may have left their existing job and are working to set up a new business.

Whilst others may stay in their current job and set up a business on the side. This is increasing known as side hustle.

A side hustle is a way of making money in addition to your existing work.

Why Set Up Your Own Online Education Business?

Many people set up their own online education business as their full time business or as a side hustle.

There are many reasons why setting up your own education business is beneficial to you. Let’s look at some of these reasons –

Reason 1 – It is Life Changing

Setting up your own online education business can help you to change your life. It gives you something to work towards that is yours. Your own business.   It can also change your life in other ways. For example,

  • You can work from home or where you want.
  • You can control the courses you sell.

Reason 2 – Sharing

Setting up your own education business enables you to share your knowledge, experience and skills with other people, giving students the benefit of what you know.

Reason 3 – Self-Esteem

Working in education is a positive experience. You are supporting people to increase their knowledge, to learn, to develop and grow.  This is, therefore, beneficial to your own feelings of self-esteem, self-worth and job fulfilment. You know that you and your business are helping others.

Reason 4 – Increase Your Income

The online education business is a growth industry. There is increasing potential to sell more courses, which will then increase your income. This could be on a full time basis or as a side hustle. IF you set up a business as a side hustle, then selling the courses can also increase your existing income.

Reason 5 – Potential Students

The pandemic led to changes in the education industry. Many students had to study from home for the first time ever. This increased the number of people who became aware of the benefits of online education. It is now estimated that 1 in 4 students are currently studying some form of online course. The pandemic led to a rapid growth in online education, but this growth was there before the pandemic and continues to grow. This provides great opportunities to anyone interested in working in online education

People are more receptive to online and distance learning than they were in the past. Online learning is flexible and effective. It enables people to study in a way that they couldn’t before. So, again, there is an increasing potential need for online courses.

Are you considering setting up your own online education business?

Setting up your own online education business can be as big or as small as you want.

Full Time

You might decide to set up an online school as your sole business.  There are many opportunities out there in a growth industry. The potential to sell courses and to enrol new students is definitely out there.

Expand a Business

For people with an existing business, they may wish to expand their existing services or goods.  Online learning does not have to be a threat to an existing business. It can be a great addition. To businesses already offering courses or educational services, online courses can enable them to offer more services and increase their potential clients.

You don’t need to have an existing education business though, there is potential in other areas. For example,

  • a plant nursery might start to sell gardening courses
  • a counsellor might sell courses on mental health and psychology
  • a marketing organisation might sell courses on copywriting and marketing

And so on.

Side Hustle

If you already have a job, but want to set up your own business slowly, you might consider setting up an online education business as a side hustle.  This enables you to see how the business is going and hopefully eventually have it as your sole job/income.
